Precinct 1 Place 1, Judge Thomas Jones,
Thomas G. Jones, Justice of the Peace for Dallas County, participated in the PTA for 11 years before deciding to run for election to the DISD Board of Education. Concerned about his own daughter’s education and that of other students, Mr. Jones said, “We have to try to come up with some new and creative ways of getting our children to “drop in on education and not to drop-out”. Mr. Jones served two terms on the School Board (1987- 1992). And from January 1991, to June 1992, Mr. Jones served a dual capacity as School Board Representative, District VI and Justice of the Peace, (Precinct 7) now Precinct 1 Place 1. In June 1992, Judge Jones decided not to seek re-election to the school board.

Mayor Curtistene S. McCowan, DeSoto Texas
McCowan made DeSoto history in 1990 when she was the first Black person elected to public office in the city as a member of the DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees. She served on the school board for six years, two of those as the board's president. Before she was elected mayor in 2016 (and re-elected in 2019), McCowan had been a member of the DeSoto City Council for four years. Before that, she was on the DeSoto Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors for five years. In addition to all of those honors and the other titles she held in the DeSoto community, McCowan was also a 32-year federal government employee; she was the senior investigator for the Federal Trade Commission’s Southwest Regional Office for more 18 years.

Judge Kim Cooks,
Kim Cooks has been a practicing Trial Attorney for the past 11 years. Her primary practice is Family Law and she has extensive experience in a variety of family law cases. She is currently a judicial candidate for the 255th Family District Court in Dallas County. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology with a minor in business management from the University of Texas in Arlington. Judge Andrea Martin,
The Honorable Judge, Andrea Martin, is dedicated to providing a better life for all citizens and communities. She is committed to doing things differently in order to get different, yet better, results. After law school, Andrea Martin took a position with the Dallas County District Attorney's Office and begin prosecuting criminal cases in the family violence court. Later, Andrea Martin moved to the Juvenile court and began representing Child Protective Services in child abuse and neglect case.
In 2003, Andrea Martin left the District Attorney's Office and began her own private practice in Dallas, Texas. She has a vision to positively impact the youth of Dallas County by ensuring that our youth stay out of cages and in the community with programs targeted to challenge and grow our youth into positive and productive adults.

Justice of the Peace 1-2, Judge Valencia Nash,
Judge Nash was elected to serve in 2007. She was born and raised in Dallas, Texas and graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School. She attended the University of Houston and received a Bachelor of Science Degree. Judge Nash received her Juris Doctorate Degree from Thurgood Marshall School of Law at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas. She is licensed and has practiced law in Florida, Georgia, and Texas and has practiced in the areas of environmental law and justice, family law, juvenile law, construction law and litigation. On November 3, 2008, Judge Nash was appointed to the Texas Judicial Council by Chief Justice Wallace B. Jefferson of the Supreme Court of Texas. Chief Justice Jefferson reappointed her to a second term to serve on the Council on January 25, 2013. The Texas Judicial Council is the policy making body for the state judiciary.

Attorney Heath Harris,
Heath Harris is the First Assistant at the District Attorney’s (DA) Office, where he has worked since returning to the office in 2007. Prior to being appointed First Assistant, he served as Administrative Chief of Division A (Felony), Administrative Chief of the Intake/Grand Jury Division and Chief of the Gang Unit. Additionally, in 2008 he was the recipient of the DA’s Above & Beyond Award. The Lubbock, Texas, native has 16 years of experience practicing criminal law and worked in private practice from 2000 to 2006. During his previous four-year stint as a Dallas County prosecutor, he prosecuted hundreds of cases in the misdemeanor and felony trial divisions under two prior administrations between 1996 and 2000.

Marty Jo Taylor, Attorney, and Mediator.
Marty Jo Taylor advocates against family violence so children can grow up free from pain and insecurity. With over 20 years of experience, Marty Jo knows how to relate to families. Marty Jo has been a Youth Director at Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church and the Director over the Children’s Ministry at Gospel Tabernacle Church. She had also served as a special commissioner for various Dallas County Courts at Law.

Chaplin Rayford Butler,
Senior Pastor Greater Mt Hebron Missionary Baptist 27 years. Founder and CEO of West Dallas Community Ministry, Inc. 501(c)3 Organization. Educated/ Teacher for Dallas Independent School District, 18 years. Chaplain for Dallas Police Department serving for 8 years. Chaplain for Dallas Black Police Association serving for 1 year. Chairperson for Homestead Community Crime Watch. Community Liaison for Homestead Community Neighborhood Association Board Member for 2nd Saturday Organization.
